Distinguishing Features of the Class:

This is a routine and repetitive work involving responsibility for the efficient sorting, delivery, and transporting a variety of mail, packages, and other materials, requiring the use of a motor vehicle. The work is performed under direct supervision according to established procedures. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities (Illustrative but not exhaustive):

Picks up mail at post office and delivers to mailroom for sorting;

Sorts and delivers mail, packages, and similar materials between departments and other agencies according to schedule or on an as needed basis;

Receives and delivers office supplies;

Assists in storage or mail rooms by receiving, sorting, or delivering supplies;

Operates automobile to pick up and deliver mail;

Keeps simple records;

May tend to simple routine maintenance of vehicle operated.

Substitute Custodial WorkerHFM2324-SubCustWkr

POSITION SUMMARY
The Substitute Custodial Worker position involves routine and repetitive manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance of building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed according to a well-established procedure and maintenance tasks are performed under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from a Custodian or other supervisor. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. Does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Sweeps and mops floors and stairs
  • Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment
  • Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks and other fixtures
  • Polishes furniture and metal furnishings
  • Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes if rubbish
  • May mow lawns, trim shrubs, rake leaves, remove snow and ice from walks and driveways and perform a variety of other grounds keeping tasks as assigned
  • Assists in the operation of oil, gas or coal fired low-pressure heating system including firing and removing ashes
  • Delivers mail and packages
  • Places and removes traffic safety signs
  • Arranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of building
  • Repairs window shares, replaces light bulbs, soap and towels
  • Paints rooms and equipment and assists in making minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

POSITION INFORMATION

  • Employment is on an as-needed basis.
  • Services may be needed for one day, one week, one month or longer.
  • All daily assignments are subject to possible cancellation (without compensation) at any time prior to the beginning of the workday.
  • Need for substitutes will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week and, as such, no guarantee can be given for work on any given day.
  • Supervised by Building or Program Administrator.
  • Employment is automatically discontinued effective June 30, unless the individual is reappointed for the following school year.

Senior Account Clerk - Business OfficeHFM2022SAC-BO

HFM BOCES accepting applications for a, full-time, Senior Account Clerk in the Business Office at the Main Campus of HFM BOCES in Johnstown, NY.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

The work involves the responsibility for independently performing and/or supervising the maintenance and review of financial accounts and records. The incumbent generally follows a prescribed routine in the performance of accounting duties, however, the work may require decision making as to the methods used and the classification of records and accounts. This position differs from Account Clerk in that the duties are more complex, the level of responsibility is higher and the incumbents may supervise a small number of clerical staff. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative but not exhaustive): 

  • Reviews a variety of more complex financial documents, classifies them and distributes items into a variety of accounts according to prescribed procedures and policies;
  • Posts figures to appropriate accounts, makes all necessary adjustments in balances and verifies and reconciles balances;
  • Renews status of accounts as adjustments are made and takes appropriate action as authorizing payment, issuing checks or preparing bills;
  • Tracks, audits and monitors a variety of accounts and verifies that adjustments are made to correct allocations;
  • Prepares more complex financial or statistical summary reports;
  • Checks for accuracy of computations and completeness or supervises the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports which are compiled into summary reports or claims for Federal or State reimbursements;
  • Types accounting and financial statements, payrolls, statistical tabulations and data, form letters, memoranda, vouchers, reports, requisitions and other material from rough draft or from data which is personally developed using a keyboard, word processor or personal computer;
  • Prepares funds for deposit into book accounts, reconciles accounts and prepares reports from the information;
  • Contacts clients, vendors or other agencies to obtain additional information;
  • Provides information orally or in writing in response to inquiries on status of accounts; 
  • Processes, sorts, indexes, records and files a variety of control records and reports;
  • Operates calculator, computer terminal, check writing machines and other related office  equipment;
  • Does more complex payroll transactions or may do payroll for entire department and prepares related reports;
  • May assist in the preparation of figures and reports for use in budget preparation;
  • May administer employee health and dental benefit plans;
  • May supervise employees by assigning and reviewing completed work and instructing employees in specialized account keeping activities.
