Job Description

HFM BOCES is seeking a Substitute Mail Courier. 

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

This is a routine and repetitive work involving responsibility for the efficient sorting, delivery, and transporting a variety of mail, packages, and other materials, requiring the use of a motor vehicle. The work is performed under direct supervision according to established procedures. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities (Illustrative but not exhaustive):

Picks up mail at post office and delivers to mailroom for sorting;

Sorts and delivers mail, packages, and similar materials between departments and other agencies according to schedule or on an as needed basis;

Receives and delivers office supplies;

Assists in storage or mail rooms by receiving, sorting, or delivering supplies;

Operates automobile to pick up and deliver mail;

Keeps simple records;

May tend to simple routine maintenance of vehicle operated.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

Working knowledge of driving safety procedures;

Working knowledge of office routines;

Ability to safely operate light automotive equipment under all driving and road conditions;

Ability to read and write;

Ability to understand simple oral and written directions;

Ability to work well with others;

Ability to lift moderately heavy items such as mail bags and boxes;

Accuracy;

Dependability.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or a high school individual education plan diploma.

Special Requirement: Possession of an appropriate level New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

 

TEACH Clearance

Per Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required. Formal job offer/selection is contingent on ability to obtain a fingerprint security clearance through the TEACH system prior to working.
