Job Description

Job Title: College Liaison – School Counselor, HFM PTECH Program

Location: Fulton–Montgomery Community College (FMCC) with service to SUNY Cobleskill cohorts twice per month on site (primary office at FMCC)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Tenure Track; 10-month plus twenty (20) days; start date as soon as possible

Position Overview:

The College Liaison – School Counselor supports high school students enrolled in the HFM PTECH early college high school program. This unique role blends secondary and postsecondary student support, providing a rewarding opportunity to help students navigate college academics while building professional and personal success skills. The Liaison works directly with students and staff, supports the creation and execution of the master schedule for PTECH at FMCC, and collaborates closely with high school teachers, college professors, and campus offices to ensure student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Advising & Advocacy
  • Serve as students’ primary advocate and advisor for selecting and registering in appropriate college courses aligned to their pathway and graduation requirements.
  • Guide students on degree maps, credit accumulation, academic standing, and progression toward certificates/associate degrees.
  • Counseling Services
  • Provide school counseling support to students individually and in small groups, addressing academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness needs.
  • Develop and deliver brief counseling interventions, success plans, and referrals as needed.
  • Master Schedule & Program Operations
  • Create and execute the master schedule for PTECH at FMCC in coordination with high school administration, the college Registrar, department chairs, and pathway leads.
  • Coordinate placement testing, orientation/onboarding, add/drop timelines, and semester transition logistics.
  • Registration & Enrollment Coordination
  • Oversee semester course selection, registration, and schedule adjustments; monitor prerequisites, seat availability, and modality (in-person/online/hybrid).
  • Track progress reports, midterm alerts, and final grades to proactively support student success.
  • School–College Communication
  • Maintain regular, open communication with high school teachers and college professors to align supports, share concerns, and celebrate progress.
  • Collaborate with college offices (Advisement, Registrar, Financial Aid, Accessibility Services, Counseling Center) to remove barriers and connect students to resources.
  • Family & Community Liaison
  • Act as liaison between families and community agencies, facilitating referrals, meetings, and wrap-around supports that promote attendance, well-being, and persistence.
  • Data, Compliance & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records (schedules, credit audits, interventions, referrals) consistent with FERPA and district policies.
  • Prepare periodic reports on student outcomes, risk indicators, and support actions for program leadership.
  • Collaboration & Culture
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive program culture that reflects PTECH’s focus on college and career readiness.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and campus events to build strong school–college partnerships.
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Valid NYS Certification as a School Counselor (required)
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Experience working with adolescents in secondary or postsecondary settings
  • Demonstrated skill in academic advising, counseling, and family engagement
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively across school and college environments

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with early college, dual enrollment, or PTECH-style programs
  • Familiarity with college registration systems, degree audits, and master scheduling processes
  • Comfort with technology and student information systems; proficiency with collaborative tools and data tracking

 

 

TEACH Clearance

Per Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
