HFM BOCES is accepting applications for a School Monitor to work between Mayfield and Gloversville schools.  The School Monitor Position is a 10-month, labor-class, civil service position with additional work available over the summer.  The School Monitors will work with Teachers, the School Safety Coordinator and School Administration to create and support an environment where all students feel that they are welcome, they belong, and they are supported.  By fostering positive relationships with students, staff and families, through active communication and strong collaboration, the School Monitors will be a part of a team that works to implement and maintain our district-wide and school safety plans with fidelity.   

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is work of ordinary difficulty involving responsibility for assisting staff and students by performing assigned routine tasks including the supervision and care of children. Since there are definite limits on the type and complexity of assignments, the class of School Monitor differs in that respect from Teacher Aide which usually involves duties of greater difficulty generally requiring specific skills or abilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a School District Leader, the School Principal or a member of the teaching staff.  Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative but not exhaustive):

  • Assists in supervising students, including but not limited to hallways, recreation and lunch periods and study halls;
  • May supervise children in classrooms for brief periods in a teachers' absence;
  • Guides children safely across streets and intersections;
  • Maintains order in gymnasiums, locker rooms and swimming pools;
  • Oversees students passing between classes and in locker rooms and on premises before and after school;
  • Helps children in lower grades with wearing apparel;
  • May perform simple clerical duties under close supervision;
  • Assists students on and off buses.
  • Assist with monitoring the safety of building, including screening visitors.
