Teacher: Introduction to Construction 

 

Location: HFM BOCES Career & Technical Education 

Student Population: Grades 9-10

Appointment: Full-Time, 10-Month

Do you have a passion for the trades, construction, creating, and preparing young people for meaningful future careers?  Our Introduction to Construction Program at our NEW Early CTE Program is seeking an educator to provide foundational skills, new opportunities, and meaningful career exposure for students in 9th and 10th grade in the fields of Construction and Skilled Trades.  

 

The Early CTE Program seeks to blend authentic career exposure, real-world application of skills, and hands on learning to empower students as they develop both technical and professional skills; while moving each student closer to their goal of becoming enrolled, employed, or enlisted after high school graduation.  

 

What You’ll Teach and Do

  • Deliver instruction in foundational construction and skilled trades concepts using hands-on, project-based learning

  • Develop students’ employability skills in professionalism and communication

  • Design instruction that emphasizes real-world skills, scenario-based learning, and applied problem-solving 

  • Provide opportunities for career exploration and exposure to a variety of careers in the field

  • Collaborate with our ELA and Special Education teachers to integrate academic skills with your content 

  • Participate in program improvement, advisory committee meetings, and student leadership activities 

  • Be part of the team that builds the new Early CTE Program

Job Qualifications

Who We’re Looking For

  • NYS CTE Teaching Certification in Technology Education, Carpentry (7-12), Masonry (7-12), Plumbing  (7-12), Electrical (7-12), Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration  (7-12), Residential/Commercial Building Maintenance and Remodeling (7-12), Drafting (7-12) OR Eligibility to obtain certification through a minimum ofone to four years of experience in a related field based on post-secondary education

  • Prior experience in the Construction and/or Skilled Trades field(s) preferred 

  • Commitment to equity, student engagement, professionalism, and post-secondary preparation 

  • Support will be provided to candidates transitioning from industry into teaching.

  • Post-Secondary Education NOT necessarily required
