HFM BOCES is seeking School Bus Drivers. This is a 10-month position with possible hourly work over the summer. HFM BOCES offers a shared service to provide transportation for students enrolled in the Gloversville Enlarged School District and the Greater Johnstown School District.
Successful candidates are eligible to take advantage of HFM BOCES health insurance coverage and the New York State retirement system once they have successfully completed the initial training period.
*Applicants who have retired from the New York State Employees' Retirement System (ERS) or Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) may qualify for a higher hourly pay rate.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative but not exhaustive):
- Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions;
- Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;
- Reports any mechanical defect to immediate superior;
- Instructs or informs children about safety practices when entering and leaving bus;
- Runs errands and makes bank deposits;
- Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;
- May operate a station wagon or other similar vehicle;
- May perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle;
- May be required to perform minor building maintenance and cleaning tasks.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under all driving and road conditions; ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with children and command their respect; mechanical aptitude; mental alertness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
All candidates must have or be willing and able to obtain a clean Class B License with both a "P" and an "S" endorsements. Training is available depending on the qualifications of the candidate. Pursuant to Education Law, must be at least 21 years of age and possess license at the time of permanent appointment.

Fulton County Civil Service
This is a Civil Service position. Applicants must be a resident of Hamilton, Fulton or Montgomery County in order to be considered for this position.
TEACH Clearance
Per Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required. Formal job offer/selection is contingent on ability to obtain a fingerprint security clearance through the TEACH system prior to working.
