HFM BOCES Adirondack Academy has an opening for a full-time Teacher on Special Assignment: Behavior Interventionist. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position involves the responsibility of applying behavior intervention methods and practices to maintain order and safety within a population alternative education or at-risk students participating in a structured educational program. This position is responsible for observing when a student is a danger to themselves or others, and other circumstances requiring intervention to provide the appropriate intervention when necessary. The successful candidate will also be required to exercise personal judgment when necessary to handle problem situations utilizing commonly accepted crisis intervention practices and procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of the program administrator. Supervision of others is not a requirement of the position.

DUTIES:

The following are primary responsibilities of this position. Other duties related to student management and safety may be assigned by the program administrator as needed.

  1. Manages disruptive or out-of-control behaviors of students by providing appropriate interventions when necessary;
  2. Removes disruptive students from classroom and non-classroom areas of the program, and maintains an effective alternative space for students;
  3. Assists in the classroom when crisis situations require aid and to be “on call” in the proximity of potential crisis situations;
  4. Maintains a controlled environment for students and staff in the building or facility grounds;
  5. Monitors all major daily behavioral incidents to resolution and reports status to clinical and administrative staff;
  6. Completes written behavioral summaries to assist teachers and administrators in the development of appropriate learning experiences and behavior plans;
  7. Participates with staff in developing strategies and solutions for students who are experiencing difficulty with adjustment and behavior management problems;
  8. Monitors individual behaviors of students in cooperation with clinical and educational staff, making referrals for counseling or discipline, as needed;
  9. Coaches and supports students in proper conflict-resolution skills and communication strategies by providing enrichment activities to students and reinforce a positive attitude for students within the educational program;
  10. Develops alternative activities including behavior modification and mediation strategies for targeted students returning from suspension;
  11. *Must be trained as a trainer in verbal and physical interventions* Training updates will be provided to successful candidate

 

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.

Adirondack Academy, an alternative program within HFM BOCES, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long-Term Substitute Earth Science Teacher to join our team. We are looking for an educator who is eager to build meaningful relationships with students, help them grow academically and personally, and contribute to a supportive and collaborative school community.

Integrated Math TeacherCTE MATH TCHR 24/25

HFM Career and Technical Education -- Integrated Math (7-12) Teacher

HFM BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE)  has an opening and is accepting applications for a full-time, 10-month tenure-track Mathematics teaching position. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Mathematics Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team. The ideal candidate will integrate mathematics instruction within the contexts of construction, environmental conservation, cybersecurity, robotics, and skilled trades. This position requires a passion for teaching, a commitment to student success, and the ability to connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications in various technical fields. HFM BOCES' teachers are part of the NYSTRS.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development:

    • Design and implement an integrated mathematics curriculum that aligns with CTE standards and incorporates industry-specific contexts in construction, environmental conservation, cybersecurity, robotics, and skilled trades.
    • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that engage students and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  2. Instruction:

    • Teach mathematics courses that are integrated with CTE subjects, ensuring students understand and apply mathematical concepts in practical, real-world scenarios.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods and technologies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  3. Collaboration and Professional Development:

    • Work collaboratively with CTE instructors and industry partners to ensure curriculum relevancy and alignment with current industry standards and practices.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational best practices and industry trends.
